COVID-19 Our tennis competitions are being played with a COVID-19 safety plan in place as directed by Government guidelines. In order to keep us all safe as well as to avoid the risk of being issued with fines, all players, parents, coaches and spectators are required to always follow Government guidelines, including but not limited to, social distancing, using hand sanitiser and the cleaning of surfaces. Players β no handshakes, fist bumps or high fives and instead use racquet taps. Please regularly check this page and the ISLTA JB Facebook page for updates on any changes to playing and spectator conditions. If a player is feeling unwell please arrange for another player. The Illawarra Suburbs Lawn Tennis Association (ISLTA) - Junior Branch is a not-for-profit entity run entirely by volunteers, who are mostly players' parents. The Committee is excited to advise several changes and improvements to the competition, including using Match Centre as our results recording platform for all grades. Premier, A and B grades have been run as UTR events since our Winter 2021 Competition. Keep an eye on the ISLTA JB Facebook page and our new Instagram account, islta.jb for updates. WHAT IS A UTR? UTR - Universal Tennis Rating - is a global rating system, which is supported by Tennis Australia , that provides an objective, consistent and accurate index of tennis players' skill. UTR rates all players on a single 16-point scale, regardless of age, gender, nationality or locale of a given match Premier, A and B Grade competitions are UTR events . All players in these grades must therefore be UTR-registered . Don't have a UTR? Register now and create your profile at UTR Sports . HOW CAN I ENTER THE SATURDAY MORNING JUNIOR UNISEX COMPETITION? We recommend completing your details on our Keep Updated page to be kept informed of our competition details. You can also like our ISLTA JB Facebook page where we publish all our updates. All players, including reserves, in all grades must have a Tennis Australia 66333 number to play. Registering on Match Centre for your Tennis Australia 66333 number is simple and fast to do. Register now and then complete your Competitive Player Profile and activate your UTR from your profile. This is a Tennis Australia mandatory requirement and will allow players to record their results directly to Match Centre . Premier, A and B Grade competitions are UTR events and all players in these grades must therefore be UTR-registered . Don't have a UTR yet? Register now at UTR Sports . HOW DO I CHECK WHICH SUBURBS ARE INCLUDED IN THE COMPETITION AND HOW CAN I FIND A COACH? All suburbs across both the St George and Sutherland Shire areas form part of the Illawarra Suburbs Lawn Tennis Association - Junior Branch (ISLTA - JB). Here is a list of the suburbs included in the Competition . If you need a coach, here's a list of coaches who currently enter teams in the Saturday Morning Competition. WHAT IS THE FORMAT FOR PREMIER GRADE AND HOW CAN I BE CONSIDERED FOR SELECTION? Premier Grade is different to our other grades. Premier Grade teams and the individual seedings are selected by the Committee. The format is currently under review and will be advised in time for the start of the Winter 2026 Competition. Previous format: there are six teams with five seeds in each team. Every week four players play against their equivalent seeds, with specific seeds having specific weeks rostered off. E xpressions of interest can be emailed to isltapremier@gmail.com . Prospective players are invited by the Committee to trial. After the Premier Grade trials (existing highly-seeded players are not required to trial) the Committee decides seeds based on players' trial results as well as previous results data. Regrettably not all players who trial can be selected but reserves are always welcome. Premier Grade - Learn More A TO C GRADES - SUBSTITUTION PLAYERS In the event a player is needed to fill in for your team please send an email to the Results Recorder to obtain permission. See Rule 14 on page 13 and Rule 24 on page 19 of the Competition Rule Book and Draw (A & B Grades) . See the substitution player section on the second page of the Result Sheet . HOW DO I SUBMIT MY TEAM'S RESULTS? BOTH TEAMS MUST email the scanned or photographed Result Sheet to the Results Recorder . Results must be received by no later than 7pm on the day of play. Please ensure that the following details are clearly filled out on all A - C Grades Result Sheets : Date Team names Each player's name and surname Correctly completed score and winning team name Both captain's signatures Good sportsmanship nomination - optional Please be aware that only one warning will be issued for late results, after which, for every incidence of late submission, penalties may apply, including β but not limited to β a draw being recorded and the points shared between the two teams. Premier Grade Result Sheet A - C Grades Result Sheet WHAT DO WE DO IN THE EVENT OF WET WEATHER? In the event of wet weather please call the court telephone number listed in the Rule Book to ascertain if court is playable (on safety grounds). If the court is likely to be playable or if it is uncertain, players must proceed to the court where a decision will be made up to 30 minutes after the scheduled start time. The home team must advise the Results Recorder if play does not go ahead. Optional : teams to advise the Results Recorder of the players who were due to have played. Competition Rule Book and Draw (A & B Grades) I HAVE OBSERVED GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP - WHO DO I TELL? ISLTA Junior Branch rewards good sportsmanship with our Good Sportsmanship awards. And your nominations count! Rewards are in the form of prizes given out at the end of each comp (summer and winter) at the Finals presentations The ISLTA β JB Committee is keen to promote good sportsmanship as a way of recognising players who demonstrate a positive attitude and good sportsmanship. Anyone witnessing g ood sportsmanship can nominate a player/s. Email your nomination/s to: goodsportsislta@gmail.com , including the player details and reasons for the nomination. Possible reasons for nomination: Being polite to players both on and off court Calling the score in a loud and clear voice Helping the opposing team in all things related to tennis e.g. attentive as a ball person. The ISLTA Junior Branch Committee is a volunteer group of players' parents and other interested members. The Committee manages the registrations, organises the draws and collates the results. Committee members work together, making key decisions regarding the competition and ensuring things run smoothly. This includes, but is not limited to, holding Premier Grade trials and selecting and player seedings as well as grading the teams in A and B grades. New members are always welcome. In fact we are very keen for new committee members as a number have recently left due to their children having reached the maximum age of 19. COVID-19 Plan UNIVERSAL TENNIS RATING (UTR) UTR is a global rating system supported by Tennis Australia that provides a single, objective, consistent and accurate measurement of skill level for tennis players for all ages, geographies and gender. A playerβs UTR is a number between 1.00 and 16.50. Players having a UTR will assist Junior Branch in grading accurately and also to run tournaments. It will also ensure players are matched up to play opponents of a similar rating and therefore standard. Learn More SPORTSMANSHIP NOMINATIONS ISLTA Junior Branch rewards good sportsmanship with the Good Sportsmanship Awards. Expressions of interest should be emailed to: isltapremier@gmail.com PREMIER GRADE The highest grade of the Saturday Morning Junior Competition, known as Premier Grade , is run in a tournament style environment at the Ken Rosewall Tennis Centre, Roberts Road, Peakhurst. βοΈ 0411 841 902 ISLTA - Junior Branch would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Sandor Platthy of Evolution Tennis . πΎ His generous support π has allowed Premier Grade matches to be held at these courts for many years β and we truly appreciate it! We couldnβt do it without Sandor. The format for Premier Grade for the Winter 2026 Competition is currently being reviewed. If you have any feedback about what has worked well and what can be improved, please urgently send your comments to isltapremier@gmail.com and presidentisltajb@gmail.com . Previous format: six teams, with five players in each team and four different players rotating play each week. The total duration per player per round is between two and three hours. Each player plays one singles match (two sets and a super tiebreak) and one doubles match (one set). We are pleased to advise that this event is run as a UTR competition. Interdistrict Challenge Cup REPRESENTATIVE COMPETITION ISLTA Junior Branch is proud to represent the Illawarra area in the Interdistrict and Challenge Cup competitions. ISLTA has proudly been a part of Interdistrict since 1947 with junior, senior and veteran events in the eight-week competition. In the Challenge Cup, ISLTA players are able to compete against the teams from SDTA (Southern Districts Tennis Association) in an annual one-day competition competing for the Challenge Cup trophy. Interdistrict Challenge Cup Interdistrict INTERDISTRICT ISLTA Junior Branch is proud to be a part of an annual inter-district competition where teams of different age groups and genders compete against each other. Players from the Illawarra district (St George and Sutherland Shire) must trial for a position in their age group's team. The team goes on to represent Illawarra by playing against teams from more than 17 Sydney metropolitan associations. πΎ Age groups: 10s, 12s, 14s and 16s in both boysβ and girls' teams πΎ Ages are as at 30 September 2026 πΎ All age Open tournament is also available for men and women Trial date: Sunday 17 May 2026 Time: 3pm - 6pm Illawarra Tennis Centre at Rockdale - Courts 10-15 Registration forms must be submitted to Tracy Charas by no later than Sunday 17 May Download the Registration Form 2026 Tournament Dates: Note: this competition is played on Sundays 26 July and 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 August No play on 6 September for Father's Day Semi-Finals and Play-offs : 13 September | Finals : 20 September (location TBC ) Players must be available to play on all Sundays and at all locations Tournament time: 12.30pm until finish πΎ All players are required to have a Tennis Australia 66333 number and it is the responsibility of each player to provide that when registering. CHALLENGE CUP The Challenge Cup is an annual one-day junior event which is played on a Sunday each year between junior teams from our association (ISLTA) and Tennis Macarthur (SDTA - Campbelltown area association.) Due to changes at Tennis Macarthur Southern Districts Tennis Association, this year's Challenge Cup has been postponed and will be held in 2026 (Date TBC: Sunday ***) Location: Tennis Macarthur Wests Tennis Centre: 16 Old Leumeah Road Leumeah 2560 Teams of boys and girls are formed in the following age groups: 10s, 12s, 14s and 16s (age as at 30 October 2025) Coaches will submit players' names for nomination to play. Nominations close on Thursday TBC. Players will be selected on their ability; the final decision on players and teams will be made by the ISLTA β JB Committee. Tournament information : Registration for the Challenge Cup is free to all players already registered and playing in an Illawarra Suburbs Lawn Tennis Association β Junior Branch ( ISLTA β JB) competition; Team shirts will be provided free of charge to all successful players placed into a team; Players will need to arrive at the courts by no later than 8:30am on Sunday TBC to collect their shirt; After an introduction players will split into their teams with matches commencing at 9am; Games will follow a format of two (2) sets of doubles and one (1) set of singles; Players can organise, with assistance if required, seeding i.e. players ranking themselves 1, 2 or 3; This will ensure that players play the oppositionβs ranked players in correct seeding. Morning tea and lunch (lunch details TBA) will be provided for the players. What players need to bring with them: A plate of fruit or cakes for morning tea to share; Their own drinks (not required to share); Sunscreen; Tennis racquets and whatever tennis/sporting equipment they normally use. We anticipate that the day will conclude at approximately 3pm. A trophy presentation will take place after the matches have been played at approximately 2:30pm.
